He also serves as the longtime forensic pathologist for the San Joaquin County Coroner's Office since 1972 and the Calaveras and Amador County, California, Coroner Offices since 2011. Furthermore, Dr. Lawrence provides his expertise as a laboratory director for Quest Diagnostics Clinical Laboratory since 1993. Prior to establishing Forensic Consultants, he notably established a reputation as a prominent leader in the medical community as partner of Delta Pathology Associates in Stockton for 35 years between 1972 and 2007.
Having had an exciting career, Dr. Lawrence has worked on numerous high profile cases throughout the country. His success in the field of forensics, he noted, has been predicated on his determination to find the truth during the autopsy process. When cases go to court, he also goes to great measures to explain the facts to jury members in a manner that is accurate and comprehensible so that they can make informed decisions.
In addition to practicing medicine and working in consulting, Dr. Lawrence has been instrumental as the medical director of the Foundation Health Plan for over a decade between 1980 and 1992. He was also active on the board of directors and as president of the Delta Blood Bank, on the board of directors of the San Joaquin County Child Abuse Prevention Council in Stockton, and as a founding board of directors of the Service First Bank in Stockton.
A prolific writer, Dr. Lawrence most notably authored two medical books, "Snap Diagnoses in Pathology" in 1976 and "Forensic Pathology for the Primary Care Physician" in 1982. He also contributed numerous articles to various scholarly journals in his area of expertise.
An alumnus of the University of the Pacific, Dr. Lawrence received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1962. Continuing his studies, he achieved a medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), in 1966, followed by an internship at UCLA Hospital and a residency in pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Lawrence also served three years as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Navy between 1966 and 1969. He is board certified by the American Board of Pathology, Anatomic, Clinical, and Forensic Pathology.
A prominent member of several professional organizations throughout his career, Dr. Lawrence has been active with the American Medical Association, the California Medical Association, the San Joaquin County Medical Society, the College of American Pathologists, and, among others, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Dr. Lawrence was a pathology fellow at the May Clinic from 1970 to 1973. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in the 23rd through 25th editions of Who's Who in the West.
