When initially pursuing a career in healthcare, Mr. Soileau studied anesthesia. However, he soon found that he did not enjoy surgical work, and preferred to serve as an administrator of healthcare services. He received a nursing diploma from the Charity Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science from the Health Arts University of St. Francis and a Master of Health Administration in organization design and finance from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. Soileau is a registered nurse in Louisiana and Mississippi. After graduating, he advanced from clinical leadership to executive leadership, beginning his career at the Charity Hospital of Louisiana as the head nurse of the female medicine unit and assistant supervisor of the fourth floor.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Soileau has worked in various leadership roles at Slidell Memorial Hospital, as well as at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Mississippi, Gulf State Health Services, Renaissance Healthcare Systems in Texas, Global Health Management and Oakdale Community Hospital. Today, Mr. Soileau serves as the chief executive officer of Natchitoches Regional Medical Center (NRMC). He also serves as the president of the Louisiana chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
In his current position, Mr. Soileau is responsible for the organizational performance of a health system that includes a 96-bed acute care hospital system, a senior living center and the assisted living center. He oversees more than 750 associates and more than 100 consulting physicians. In addition to his primary duties, Mr. Soileau is also a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, as well as a National Malcolm Baldrige Executive fellow of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. As an expert in his field, he was appointed by Louisiana Governors Bobby Jindal and John Bel Edwards to serve on the Louisiana State Radiologic Board of Examiners. He is also a board member of the Louisiana Hospital Association Legislature.
In a professional journey suffused with highlights, Mr. Soileau has been most proud of the growth of NRMC, which has been primarily driven by a focus on community care. Moreover, his team has been responsible for several innovative projects aimed at reducing non-emergent cases entering the emergency room. They established a twelve hour, seven-day clinic to give more people access to care. In two years, the clinic helped to decrease non-emergent cases from 69 to 24 percent. In the coming years, Mr. Soileau plans to continue working in healthcare in order to further advance the field.
