Now retired as a professor emeritus of the University of Georgia, Dr. Langley led an illustrious career as an educator, an author, and a historian for more than 50 years. At the beginning of his career, he taught as an assistant professor at Texas A&M University, from 1965 to 1967, before joining Central Washington University as a professor in 1967. Upon departing Central Washington University in 1970, he was hired by the University of Georgia as an associate professor for the department of history. Furthermore, Dr. Langley served as a full professor and a research professor at the University of Georgia until his retirement in 2000.
In addition to his primary endeavors, Dr. Langley also completed visiting professorships with the University of Texas and Texas A&M University between 2000 and 2002. A published author, his creative works include "American and the Americas: The United States in the Western Hemisphere," "Simon Bolivar: Venezuelan Rebel, American Revolutionary," "The Americas in the Age of Revolution," "The Americas in the Modern Age," and "The Long American Revolution and Its Legacy." To remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Langley maintains affiliation with the Historical Society, the American Historical Association, the Conference on Latin American History, and the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Langley earned a Bachelor of Arts from West Texas State University in 1961. Soon thereafter, he obtained a Master of Arts from the aforementioned academic institution in 1962. Moreover, he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Kansas in 1965. Enjoying his retirement, Dr. Langley plays golf during his spare time.
