Dr. Watkins is an esteemed board-certified family medicine provider celebrating nearly 15 years of service in United States Navy clinics. As a child, she aspired to become a physician, and her passion for medicine was further cemented after completing an anatomy and physiology class in high school. With the support and encouragement of her mother and her anatomy instructor, she pursued a formal education at Frostburg State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in biology, cum laude. Dr. Watkins subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Maryland in 2007 utilizing a scholarship for health professionals serving in the U.S. military.
Following her internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Watkins served for two years as a general medical officer at the Naval Branch Health Clinic Crane. She continued her career with a two-year residency in family medicine at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida in 2010 before becoming appointed as a staff physician at the Naval Health Clinic Quantico in 2012. Since 2018, Dr. Watkins has excelled in her current post at the Branch Health Clinic Naval Station Norfolk, providing primary care services with additional competencies in women's healthcare and reproductive health, preventive care and behavioral health support.
Honored to have been active as a medical officer on active duty during the Iraq War, Dr. Watkins plans to continue working in military medicine for the duration of her career. Treating combat injuries as well as providing care to veterans and wounded warriors has shaped her philosophy of practice and underscored the importance of her work. In recognition of her exceptional commitment to her practice, Dr. Watkins was honored with a Navy Achievement Medal in 2010 and Third Placement in a 2012 Research Competition by US American Family Practice.
Furthermore, Dr. Watkins is noted as an award-winning fiction author with two novels to her credit: "200 Letters" and "Cute for a Black Girl." She has additionally maintained her involvement with several volunteer projects, dance groups and wellness ministries with The Mount. Looking toward the future, Dr. Watkins hopes to complete her third novel while cementing her legacy as someone who empowered others to thrive for years to come.
