In December 2020, Dr. Barrineau became a registered Professional Geologist with the State of South Carolina (#2773). Prior to embarking on his professional path, Dr. Barrineau graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geography from Auburn University in 2010. As an undergraduate student, Dr. Barrineau was an athletics department tutor and a research assistant from 2008 to 2010. He also worked in the Philmont Scout Ranch base camp in 2008 and 2010. Dr. Barrineau then attended the University of South Carolina and earned a Master of Science in Geography in 2012. Dr. Barrineau subsequently earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Geography from Texas A&M University in 2017. He served as an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Kentucky University from 2014 to 2017, and was a graduate assistant at the University of South Carolina from 2010 to 2012 and Texas A&M University from 2012 to 2014.
With extensive education in a wide variety of disciplines, Dr. Barrineau is a member of the editorial board of Shore & Beach, has been a guest reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed academic journals, and has delivered lectures at the University of South Carolina, University of Kentucky, Hebrew University (Mt. Scopus Campus), and Hashemite University in Zarqa, Jordan. He is an active volunteer with the South Carolina Progressive Alliance, and enjoys playing music and gardening vegetables in his personal time.
