STILLWATER, OK, December 21, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Leon P. Jones has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Jones began his career as a loss prevention agent for Walmart, and became more interested in law enforcement in the years that followed. After nearly a decade in this position, he accepted a position with the Oklahoma State University Police Department as a uniformed officer. Over the years, Mr. Jones advanced through the ranks of the aforementioned department to become a sergeant, lieutenant, captain and the chief of police.
During his time with the Oklahoma State University Police Department, Mr. Jones obtained a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and a Master of Advanced Study in criminal justice from Purdue Global University. He has additionally completed more than 1,500 hours of continuing education courses throughout his career, including the F.B.I. 222nd National Academy, a 10-week academy designed to improve the administration of justice within law enforcement agencies. For the past three years as the chief of police, Mr. Jones has supervised 35 officers, 15 students, eight dispatchers and five personnel staff.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Jones has been incredibly proud to have served as the first African American chief of police at Oklahoma State University. Although he was not aware of his historic appointment until the day that he was sworn in, he has held the role with great pride. For his exceptional efforts over the years, he has been presented with three Commendations in Leadership as well as an Award for Excellence from the Domestic Violence Association. In 2006, Mr. Jones was honored as the Officer of the Year at Oklahoma State University.
Over the years, Mr. Jones has attributed his professional success to his faith and his family. Likewise, he has remained persistent and transparent while forging lasting connections with peers and superiors. He maintains his professional affiliation with the FBI National Academy Association, the Oklahoma Association of Chief of Police, the Lion's Club and Rotary International. Looking toward the future, he plans to work toward a role as the director of the department of public safety for campuses at Oklahoma State University. Mr. Jones also hopes to venture into consulting and academic pursuits.
