MOSIER, OR, December 22, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. John Charles Rogers has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Inspired by his sister, who struggled with seizures, Dr. Rogers pursued a career in medicine. During the early years of his career, he gained valuable expertise in the field with Robert Wood Johnson Rutgers Medical School, where he served between 1981 and 1987. Over the course of the next 25 years, he parlayed his considerable expertise to students at Baylor College of Medicine as a professor of family and community medicine. While with Baylor, he developed a mentoring program for medical students, which was one of the highlights of his career.
More recently, Dr. Rogers served as professor of family medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. Additionally, he has conducted research by way of millions of dollars in grants awarded to him through a variety of institutions, including the Iowa Kidney Foundation, The John A. Hartford Foundation, the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institutes of Health and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians Foundation. For decades, Dr. Rogers has also lent his expertise to a plethora of journals such as the Journal of Family Practice and the Archives of Family Medicine as an ad hoc reviewer and authored hundreds of articles and presentations such as "The concept and measurement of continuity in primary care," "Can experts predict health risk from family genograms?" and "Toward measuring the domains of mentoring."
An expert in his field, Dr. Rogers earned an Associate of Arts in general science from Rochester State Junior College in 1969, a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and general science from the University of Iowa in 1971, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa in 1975. From there, he completed a residency in family medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earned a Master of Public Health from the University of Washington and received a Master of Education in higher education administration from the University of Houston.
Driven to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Rogers aligns himself with the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American College of Preventive Medicine. Alongside his work in medical education, he is an active member of Friends of the Columbia Gorge, the OSU Master Naturalist Program and The Nature Conservancy. In light of his outstanding work, he has been honored on many occasions, earning recognitions through students and a Presidential Education Award through the Baylor College of Medicine. In the coming years, Dr. Rogers intends to experience the continued success of his career.
