Realizing the value of education, Captain Russell K. Schulz attended the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater -graduating with a B.S. and a teaching certificate. He then served as a Physics and Chemistry teacher at Lake Milles High School in Wisconsin from 1956 -1957, before entering the Navy in 1957, training as a Naval Aviator. During his 30 year service, he was selected as Commanding Officer of four organizations, Patrol Squadron Seventeen in Honolulu, HI from 1973 to 1975, the Naval Air Station at Willow Grove, PA from 1981 to 1983, the Naval Base at Philadelphia, PA from 1984 to 1985, and finally the Commander in Charge of the NROTC Unit at University of Pennsylvania.
Shortly after retiring from thirty faithful years of service to our country, he went on to become Vice President of Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA from 1987 until 1992, followed by Vice President of Spring Garden College in Philadelphia, PA, then continued his distinguished career as Vice President at Freedoms Foundation, Valley Forge, PA where he served for nearly two decades.
In summary, there is an array of achievements and status attached to his name. Notably, Captain Schulz earned an MA Degree from Central Michigan University in 1979. During his military service, he was named the Pensacola Naval Flight Instructor of the Year in 1964, plus he has served as President of the Philadelphia Council of the Navy League from 2000 to 2002. Adding to his list of accomplishments, he is a 33rd Degree Mason, and has remained very active in the Rotary International Organization since 1987. Mr. Schulz sat on the Board of Directors for the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, where he has also received a Distinguished Alumni Award during 2004, also during that year he received the Silver Patrick Henry Medallion for Patriotic Achievement from the Military Order of World Wars. Mr. Schulz was featured in the 60th edition of Who's Who in America, published in 2005.
