SAN JOSE, CA, December 23, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rich Santoro has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Richard Joseph Santoro, the international ambassador to bulb gardening, aka The Bulb Guy of San Jose CA, ventured into bulb gardening in 1985, when his sister-in-law, Carmen Felisilda showed him her patented 5 step program:
1) Dig hole for bulb.
2) Drop bulb in hole.
3) Cover bulb with dirt.
4) Water bulb in hole.
5) Step Awaaaaaaaaaaaay from the bulb.
The name The Bulb Guy was given to Mr. Santoro by San Jose Master Gardener and San Jose Mercury News Columnist, Holly Hayes in May 2009.
Since 1985, over 125,000 bulbs have been planted at his home in San Jose, CA. Every March The Bulb Guy Garden is open to the public free of charge.
The garden has been recognized as the largest private bulb garden (one-man show) in the United States.
For his efforts, The Bulb Guy has received a wealth of recognition over the years. Saint Jude Inspire, Costco, Sunset Magazine, The Milpitas Post (home town) San Jose Mercury News, ABC, CBS & NBC has covered the annual spectacle of color one year or another.
A record-breaking four segments on Garvin Thomas's Bay Area Proud (ABC-KNTV, 2012 thru 2017) may be his most noteworthy accomplishment.
Patrick Amiot's (famous international junk artist) rendition of the Bulb Guy sits in the middle of the garden. Everyone is welcome to take a picture with the real Bulb Guy during his annual show.
In a career suffused with highlights he has been most proud that the garden was turned into a Saint Jude Children's Hospital fundraiser in 2016. This is in memory of his son, Richie Boom Santoro who passed away from neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer.
Other noteworthy accomplishments by Mr. Santoro over the years have included standup comedian (A Cute Guy from Argentina), Steve Martin impersonator, and for the last 20 years, has been a singer for two Big Bands. In addition he's been a qualifier for the 1972 Olympic Trials 50 Kilo race walk, collegiate runner and producer of numerous variety and comic shows.
Before this Mr. Santoro was lazy.
