In addition to chairing and co-chairing the firm's tax department for two decades, Ms. Swartz also enjoyed excelled for six years on the management committee. Prior to accepting her current appointment, she served as a senior attorney at Cravath, Swaine & Moore between 1995 and 1999 and was an associate attorney at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy in New York City from 1987 to 1995.
In a career suffused with highlights, Ms. Swartz is most proud to have led the corporate tax process during her early career with Cadwalader. She was also fortunate to become involved in several large deals that afforded her additional opportunities. Some of these high-profile transactions included representing Proctor & Gamble Company, Pfizer Inc. and Salix Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and such other prestigious organizations as the Boeing Company, Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Dreamworks, Time Warner and Toys "R" Us. As a leading authority in her field, Ms. Swartz has contributed numerous articles to various professional journals, as well as chapters in several legal books.
Apart from her devotion to her career, Ms. Swartz has supported ongoing diversity and inclusion programs with respect to women in the legal field and beyond. Ms. Swartz established the Cadwalader Taskforce for the Advancement of Women. She has also served as a partner sponsor of the Cadwalader LGBT affinity network, as a member of the firm's Women Leadership Initiative and as a lead organizer of the firm's Civil Rights Series.
To prepare for her legal career, Ms. Swartz received a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, at Bucknell University in 1984 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of Pennsylvania in 1987. Eminently qualified in her field, she has been admitted to practice law by the New York Bar Association. In support of her successful career, Ms. Swartz has maintained affiliation as an executive committee member of the New York Bar Association Tax Section and the New York City Tax Club.
Celebrated for her tireless work ethic, Ms. Swartz has been recognized multiple times by numerous legal publications.
