Ms. Mahendru has always been intrigued by finance, and began reading financial papers and other publications early on in her life. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in business administration, majoring in accounting and finance from the American College of Greece in 1998 and a Master of Arts in accounting and finance, with honors, from the University of Leeds in 2000. Later in her career, she received an accounting career completion program in auditing and federal income tax from the University of North Alabama and she is completing her level III, Chartered Global Management Accountant designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Ms. Mahendru has successfully completed executive education in 'Succeeding as a Strategic CFO' from Harvard Business School in 2020.
Ms. Mahendru began her career as a project manager for Business & Project Management, S.A., in 1996, a position she held for three years. Over the course of her career, she has worked in various accounting, credit risk and financial consulting positions for both profit and nonprofit companies, in Europe and USA, including Housing Works, where between 2013 and 2016, she served as an account manager, director of finance, and vice president of finance and controller. Currently, she excels as chief financial officer of the Center for Employment Opportunities since 2016, where she concurrently held the role of interim chief operating officer from 2017 to 2019.
Throughout her career, Ms. Mahendru has been most proud of her work to replicate large strategies on a small scale at
the top level of Housing Works. In her role as the chief financial officer and interim chief operating officer at Center for Employment Opportunities, the organization tripled in size over four years. In her community, she has also served on the board of directors of the Hellenic American Bankers Association since 2018, and secretary since 2020; and as a board member and treasurer for Bent on Learning since 2016.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Mahendru plans to continue learning and finding new ways to share her experiences with others. She would also like to continue work in the nonprofit sector. She lives and works by the creed, "Have integrity, keep learning and rely upon people."
