OAK PARK, IL, January 06, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tamekia A. Swint has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected based on the current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are a part of the selection process.
Ms. Swint has been doing hair as a hobby since she was ten years old. She later decided to become professionally trained as a means of financial support while she attended college. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Community Health from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999, she joined the corporate world followed by work as a parole agent for the State of Illinois between 2000 and 2002, and then as vice president of operations for South Shore Movers, Inc., between 2001 and 2006.
Receiving a Master of Business Administration from National Louis University in 2003, Ms. Swint became a licensed insurance agent with Allstate Insurance in 2008, where she remained until 2010. Eventually, she found that she was not satisfied in corporate positions and decided to take a mission trip to Poland, where she taught English to kids attending a summer youth camp. After teaching and connecting with her students, one of whom loved the braids Ms. Swint gave her, she decided to return to what she always loved to do: hairstyling. In 2010, Ms. Swint founded Styles 4 Kidz and continued to run the business for the past ten years as the Executive Director. In 2016, she became a licensed hair braider in the State of Illinois, and in 2020, a licensed hair braiding teacher.
With her business, Ms. Swint also offers hair styling courses for parents, through which she is building communities. She takes pride in boosting children's self-esteem and self-image with beautiful hairstyles. Her business specializes in textured hair care education and resources for trans-racial adoptive, biracial, and multiethnic families, including families who have notably attended the courses from Alaska, South Africa, and Canada to obtain her services.
As a respected voice in her field, Ms. Swint recently authored a children's book, "Your Hair is Your Crown," in 2020 and received accolades and honors for her work over the years. In 2019, she received a review in Oprah Magazine's "Living Your Best Life" section, the Spotlight Award from Bronner Brothers International Beauty Show, and the Phenomenal Woman Award from Zeta Beta Phi Beta Sorority.
Over the years, Ms. Swint has attributed her professional success to a willingness to go the extra mile in her business. In the coming years, she plans to reach more families and children to impact their self-esteem significantly. She also is actively working to develop a plan to ensure her business will continue as a legacy for years to come.
