After studying dance at the Joan Harris Centre in Luzerne, PA and in New York City for many years, Ms. Harris started teaching the art of dance at just 16 years old. Over the years, she gained valuable expertise as a teacher with the Harris Conservatory of the Arts for over two decades and as an adjunct ballet instructor at King's College, where she is currently employed. When her mother-in-law and mentor, Joan Harris, who owned the Joan Harris Centre, became ill, Ms. Harris took over some of her classes. Today, she remains dedicated to the studio as the owner and a master instructor.
Throughout her career, Ms. Harris has many accomplishments in the field of dance. Ms. Harris is certified instructor of dance in Ballet, Tap and Jazz from the Prestigious Dance Educators of America. In addition to participating in several award winning dance competitions in New York City and Philadelphia, PA, Ms. Harris has choreographed numerous works for local universities, professional sports teams and theatre organizations. Her studio received such awards as Best Dance Studio in NEPA from two local newspapers, The Citizen Voice and The Times Leader as well as received accolades from the NEPA Family Magazine, for five consecutive years. Ms. Harris was also nominated for Best Choreography in a musical from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Theatrical Alliance.
Ms. Harris attributes her success to the dedicated students and families she has met and instructed over the years whom contributed to the betterment of the dance center, providing the center and Ms. Harris with the recognition they deserve. Looking forward, Ms. Harris intends to continue educating students in the art of dance and teach more at the university level.
