Having earned the distinguished title of a Professor Emeritus of Fine Arts and Art History, Dr. Alexick retired from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, in 2007. His tenure on campus, which spanned nearly three decades, involved the instruction of numerous courses, including Greco Roman Art History. He also served as the Director of Art between 1982 and 1986. Dr. Alexick formerly held faculty appointments at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia, and York College in York, Pennsylvania, and was a graduate assistant in the College of Education at Pennsylvania State University, where he pursued his doctoral degree.
An accomplished artist, Dr. Alexick is renowned for his expertise in sculpture and ceramics, drawing and painting, and as a colorist and photographer. His works have been featured in one-man shows at such institutions as the Robinson House at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and in group shows at York College, Longwood College, Christopher Newport University and the Charles Taylor Art Center in Hampton, Virginia. Dr. Alexick has maintained his own private studio, Ardenwood Studios, since 1987, where he continues to produce his works.
Inspired to contribute to his community at large, Dr. Alexick established the Alexick Family Scholarship for Art Students at Christopher Newport University in 1996. Additionally, he has served as an art exhibit judge for the Newport News Woman's Club since 1980. In this capacity, Dr. Alexick offers critiques on the artwork of club members and local students.
Highly educated in his professional field, Dr. Alexick received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine and Studio Arts at the Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William and Mary in 1964. Continuing his studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, he attained a Master of Fine Arts in art history and studio art in 1966. Dr. Alexick concluded his academic efforts in 1976, when he received a Doctor of Philosophy at Pennsylvania State University.
To remain aware of developments in his field, Mr. Alexick maintains his professional membership with the College Art Association and the Virginia Art Education Association. Well regarded for his indelible accomplishments, he was fortunate to receive a fellowship and teaching assistantship at Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in 1965. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Alexick has been showcased in the 60th and 61st editions of Who's Who in America and the seventh edition of Who's Who in American Education.
