Leading a diversified, successful career for more than 40 years, Dr. Pacalo leveraged his expertise as an historian, teaching and working in the private sector. After several years as an occupational safety and health specialist at Georgetown University beginning in 1989, he eventually founded Historical Research Enterprises LLC, where he spent over two decades conducting extensive research and writing. Publishing articles in various newspapers and other professional publications, Dr. Pacalo also developed a collection of books, including "Cold Warfare: A Compact History" in 2004, "Cold Warfare II: Political Terror" in 2008, and, among others, "Eastern Europe: Cold Warfare III" in 2010. Additionally, he co-authored "The Industrial Accident Investigation Techniques Manual," and wrote "The US Constitution and the Red Stain" and "The National Security Insider: Brain Food and Examples for the Truly Interested."
During his career as an entrepreneur, writer and researcher, Dr. Pacalo simultaneously spent several years as a global data collection accounts manager for Harris Interactive from 1999 to 2001. In 2009, he also secured faculty positions as an adjunct professor of history and political science at Trumbull Business College, National College, and taught at Youngstown State University, post-secondary teaching appointments he maintained for six years. During his tenure at the University, Dr. Pacalo notably developed a Diversity Writing Award through its foundation. Furthermore, he had the opportunity to work for the Mahoning County Public Schools in Ohio, and later at the Marion County Public Schools in Florida as a certified substitute teacher between 2010 and 2020.
Through his then local community in the District of Columbia, Dr. Pacalo was contributory as a fundraiser on behalf of the Republican National Committee Headquarters. He later served as a volunteer board member for Pride Center of Greater Youngstown, volunteered for The Salvation Army, and at the Northeast Ohio Legal Services. In 2008, 2010, and 2012 he served as a Mahoning Board of Elections presiding judge of elections through work with the Democratic and Green parties.
Prior to attending college, Dr. Pacalo enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, serving from private to captain between 1980 and 1994. His inspiration to serve his country and become a writer stemmed from his father, who was in the United States Navy and wrote for the branch's aviation magazine. Dr. Pacalo also received a Bachelor of Arts in political science at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1988, a Master of Arts in American history at Youngstown State University in 1995, a Doctor of Philosophy based upon distance education as Lacrosse University in 2003, and a graduate certificate in National Security Studies at the American Public University System in 2015. He notably holds several certifications, including in paralegal studies, and two career diplomas from Ashworth College: one in professional nutrition, diet and health in 2010 and one through the college's professional internet marketing program in 2008. He also received a postgraduate diploma in alternative medicine from the Indian Board of Alternative Medicine in 2013.
Today, Dr. Pacalo remains active as a lifetime member of Amvets, and the Military Order of the Foreign Wars. He is also a member of the Order of Saint Constantine and the American Legion Post 472. He is also a member of several greek letter societies. He served as the philanthropy director of Phi Sigma Kappa social fraternity while an undergraduate. He is also a member of Delta Epsilon Tau (distance learning), Pi Sigma Alpha (political science), Pi Gamma Mu (social sciences), and Phi Alpha Theta (history) honorary societies.
Among his awards, Dr. Pacalo was named Author of the Month in 2007. He was also decorated with numerous military awards, a Basic Parachutist's Badge, several Cold War Service Medals and a Certificate of Commendation from the National Museum of the U.S. Army. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Pacalo has been cited in the 57th and 58th editions and the 67th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America.
Born in Pensacola, Florida, Dr. Pacalo has enjoyed the opportunity to work throughout the country before returning to his home state. In retirement, he is enjoying his time spent with his spouse and business manager Joseph G. Pitts, an ITT Technical Institute graduate, and a graduate of the health information technology program at Trumbull Business College. In addition, Joseph's own business career is extensive having worked in retail management for over 30 years and having risen to the position of district manager.
