VERO BEACH, FL, January 12, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tom R. Ragland III has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A civic leader and Renaissance man, Mr. Ragland began his career in the service of the U.S. Air Force. Following the conclusion of his tour of duty, he completed a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master of Science in Architecture, Hospital Planning and Design through Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. During the 1960s and 1970s, Mr. Ragland excelled as an architect with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and as a founding partner and vice president of the Ehrenkrantz Group in New York. During his Architectural practice, he worked on such projects as the Joseph H. Hirschhorn Museum, the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Mount Sinai Hospital & School of Medicine.
The travel demands in the practice of architecture led Mr. Ragland to depart from the industry to spend more time with his family. He established his own business, the Image Center, a photo retail firm near his home, which he successfully ran between 1981 and 1993. Mr. Ragland is a noted sailing photographer and covered many of the America's Cup Regattas around the world.
While working locally, he was asked to serve on the Town of Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission, the Selectman's Committee on Parking and Traffic and the Greenwich Republican Round Table, to name only a few. In addition, he devoted himself as a community advocate by serving as Chairman of the Board of the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce and as a board member of the Greenwich Emergency Medical Service.
His final career change was into politics when the Town GOP requested, he run for Mayor of Greenwich, Connecticut. He was elected and served from 1995 until 1999.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Ragland was recognized on numerous occasions for his contributions to his country, the state of Connecticut and the Town of Greenwich. On a personal note, however, he is most proud of his 60-year marriage to his loving wife, Marilyn. Mr. Ragland is enjoying his retirement in Vero Beach, Florida.
