SANTE FE, NM, January 13, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David V. Duchane, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. While working as a laboratory technician for the Dow Chemical Company at the beginning of his career, Dr. Duchane discovered the tremendous potential and countless possible applications of chemistry in regard to improving life for everyone. Over the years, he gained valuable expertise in research and development with various corporations, including as a technical service representative for Hercules, Inc., from 1967 to 1969 and a research scientist with the Kimberly-Clark Corporation from 1969 to 1974, for which he was additionally active with one of their many brands, Kotex. Furthermore, Dr. Duchane worked as a graduate research assistant with the University of Michigan between 1974 and 1978.
From 1978 to 2000, Dr. Duchane found much success in a number of positions with the Los Alamos National Laboratory, including as an analytical chemistry scientist, a materials technology scientist, a laboratory resident scientist and multiple administrative posts in materials technology. In these roles, he notably led the team that developed the Hot Dry Rock (HDR) Program, a method of geothermal energy development that focused on the potential for hot, but dry, underground rock for useful energy production through the injection of water. Between 1998 and 1999, he further served in the Industrial Fellow Program with Phillips Petroleum. Between 2000 and 2012, Dr. Duchane excelled as the president of ChemGeo Solutions, a consulting firm which develops advanced geochemical modeling software using HDR technology.
Driven to remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Duchane was affiliated with the American Chemical Society for much of his professional career. In light of his outstanding body of work, he was recognized on many occasions, obtaining a Distinguished Patent Award and a Distinguished Performance Award from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Moreover, Dr. Duchane flourished with his written works as well, penning myriad publications in his field including a chapter for "Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology" in the 1990s edition and "Mining the Earth's Heat: Hot Dry Rock Geothermal Energy" in 2012, a detailed account of the Los Alamos HDR project.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Duchane pursued an education at Michigan State University, completing coursework from 1960 to 1963. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Central Michigan University in 1967. He graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry from the University of Michigan in 1978. Looking toward the future, Dr. Duchane intends to continue focusing on establishing new innovations for developments in Hot Dry Rock research and technology.
