Having excelled through more than 40 years of outstanding service as a public school teacher and administrator, Ms. Jones retired from her profession in 2014. Her interest in teaching arose from her participation in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, a fraternal youth organization that provided her with her earliest opportunities to develop and practice leadership and organizational skills. Observing that a career in education would represent a natural growth in the talents she had accrued as a Rainbow Girl, she focused her efforts on becoming a teacher. Ms. Jones holds a Bachelor of Arts from San Francisco State University and a Master of Arts from the University of San Francisco, and is a licensed teacher and school administrator in the state of California.
In the early 1970s, Ms. Jones began her professional journey with the Lakeport Unified School District, where she would teach for just nine years before rising to become an assistant principal. She was elected as the president of the Association of California School Administrators in 1987, and expanded her focus from building-level administration to district-wide service in 1988, when she was named as the director of educational services and special projects for the Lakeport Unified School District. She stepped down in 2000 to serve as the director of pupil personnel services for the Redwood City School District. From 2003 until her retirement, Ms. Jones acted as the program manager of special education for the Santa Clara County Office of Education, where she would additionally serve as the co-chairperson of the management team in addition to her duties coordinating adaptive services.
Following her retirement, Ms. Jones has remained active in church and community service groups. A former deputy grand matron of the Clear Lake chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, she is proud to participate in a generations-long tradition of leadership and service, and considers her time with the Order, and her role in planning the chapter's regional centennial celebration, to be a personal highlight. In her retirement, Ms. Jones enjoys such avocations as exercise, gardening and the outdoors, and is passionate about exploring her family heritage through travel.
