CHICAGO, IL, January 18, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Hans-Josef Klauck with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Klauck celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Klauck is a Franciscan priest and a Naomi Shenstone Donnelley professor emeritus of New Testament and early Christian literature who taught at the University of Chicago for 15 years before retiring in 2016. Renowned for his expertise as a theologian, religious historian, and scholar, he has extensively studied topics relating to the New Testament and was deeply concerned with the religious and social history of the Greco-Roman world.
Enjoying a career in academia that spanned more than four decades, Dr. Klauck previously taught at several prestigious institutions. He initially gained expertise in his home country of Germany as an assistant professor at his alma mater, the University of Munich, from 1975 to 1981, and was later acquired by the University of Bonn before spending another 15 years as a professor and two years as an academic dean of the theological faculty at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg. In 1997, Dr. Klauck returned to the University of Munich as a professor of New Testament exegesis. During his career in Germany, he also had the good fortune to serve as an honorary professor of new testament exegesis at the Dutch Reformed Theological School of the University of Pretoria in South Africa between 1999 and 2003.
Prior to teaching, Dr. Klauck performed pastoral work at the Parish of Sankt Pankratius in Buldern, Germany, between 1972 and 1975. During those years, he also began conducting specialized coursework in Bible and Judaic studies at the Westfälische Wilhelms University in Münster. Additionally, Dr. Klauck enjoyed working as a research assistant at the Institute of Biblical Exegesis, Bayerische, Ludwig-Maximilians-University, in Munich from 1975 to 1977.
A prolific author and editor, Dr. Klauck has contributed over 30 books in multiple different languages, as well as over 300 scholarly journal articles, dictionary articles and reviews. Some of his books include "Ancient Letter Writing and the New Testament: A Guide to Context and Exegesis," "The Religious Context of Early Christianity: A Guide to Graeco-Roman Religions" and "Magic and Paganism in Early Christianity: The World of the Acts of the Apostles." Dr. Klauck was also, notably, the main editor for the New Testament section of "Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception."
While coming of age, Dr. Klauck attended a German school where the Latin and Greek language comprised a significant portion of the curriculum. This experience motivated him to join the Franciscan order in Germany in 1966. Dr. Klauck later received a diploma in theology at the University of Bonn in Germany in 1972, the same year he was ordained a Catholic priest by Bishop Heinrich Tenhumberg in Münster. He subsequently attended the University of Munich, where he earned a Doctor of Theology in 1978 and a Doctor of Education in 1981.
Involved as a member of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas, an international society of New Testament scholars, Dr. Klauck was grateful to have served as its president during 2002. He also received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Zurich in 2008. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Klauck has been included in the 59th edition of Who's Who in America and the 18th edition of Who's Who in the World.
