SILVER SPRING, MD, January 19, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles B. Thorington has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A retired physicist with an interest in economics and its link to politics, Mr. Thorington excels today as a blogger for ADividedWorld.com, where he discusses his ideals regarding a wide range of topics, including foreign policy, social justice and matters of defense. Prior to establishing his blog in 2015, he worked for Mav6 LLC in Arlington, Virginia. There he worked on the detection of buried improvised explosive devices and their elimination. Prior to that he worked for Nokomis Inc. For nearly a decade, Mr. Thorington developed RF signature analysis algorithms for RF device identification, as well as narrow-band geolocation algorithms for antenna arrays and small signal-to-noise ratios.
During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Thorington gained valuable expertise in several executive physicist positions for such companies as Network Computing Services Inc., Boeing Electron Dynamic Devices Inc. and Hughes Aircraft Company.
During the 1960s, he also dedicated himself to his country as a field artillery officer. He served in Vietnam as a forward observer and a fire direction officer of his battery from December 1968 to December 1969. For his service he was awarded a Bronze Star medal and two Army Commendation Awards with "V" device.
Due to his considerable expertise, he authored several publications throughout his career, including "Particle Simulation of Electron Beams with Self-Consistent Magnetic Fields," "Computer Simulation of Ion Trapping and Detrapping in a PPM Focused Traveling Wave Tube" and "Transient Ion Disturbances in Traveling Wave Tubes."
Before entering the U.S. Army, Mr. Thorington earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of California Santa Barbara, after which he received a Master of Science in physics from California State University Los Angeles and pursued doctoral coursework in plasma physics at UCLA. Outside of his work, he aligns himself with the American Physical Society and the Society of Physics Students. Additionally, Mr. Thorington devotes himself to fellow veterans as an active member of Wounded Warriors.
In a career that has been filled with highlights, Mr. Thorington is most proud to have written software that detected radar hotspots on the B-2 Bomber. When it was first being flight tested, a radar hot spot indicated problems. Due to the political demands on the bomber, it had to be fixed or face cancellation. With the help of Mr. Thorington's software, the issue was identified and resolved both quickly and inexpensively. For his outstanding body of work, he also received a Technical Excellence Award through Hughes Electronics and an Outstanding Paper of the Year Award through Hughes Research Laboratories. In the coming years, Mr. Thorington aims to continue fostering his love of economics and politics through his blog, ADividedWorld.com.
