In 2005, Mr. Mantle founded Ray A. Mantle Law Office in Jacksonville, serving clients in matters of intellectual property, business and corporate matters. Practicing law in New York for 37 years before relocating to Florida, he gained valuable expertise as a corporate attorney working for several prominent law firms, including Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison, Milgrim Thomajan & Jacobs and Piper & Manbury (now DLA Piper). Well-versed in commercial international property transactions, mergers & acquisitions, venture capital financing, licensing and transfer of technology, copyright, trade secret and trademark law, Mr. Mantle is also considered to be an expert in computer software law.
As a pioneer in his field, Mr. Mantle proudly recalls that commencing in the late 1970's he had the opportunity to lecture all over the country on the emerging topic of computer software law. Among his accomplishments, Mr. Mantle created and developed the dual protection scheme for computer software using both trade secret and copyright law pursuant to a licensing system that is universally followed worldwide today for essentially all software and proprietary data licenses. Mr. Mantle also pioneered the use of music, motion picture and software copyrights as an intellectual property asset base to secure loans. Mr. Mantle was active with the New York State Bar Association's Intellectual Property Section for over 20 years, serving both as a Section officer and Chair (4X) of its annual seminar on IP law. Mr. Mantle has been an AV Rated Attorney through Martindale-Hubbell for over 45 years.
Mr. Mantle earned a Bachelor of Laws cum laude at New York University School of Law in 1964. He was an Assistant Counsel to Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller for nine months before being ordered to active duty in the US Army in 1965. Mr. Mantle is licensed to practice law in Florida and New York. He was a senior certified rules official for the Florida State Golf Association for eight years, working tournaments up to 20 days each year for both the FSGA and USGA.
Mr. Mantle served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves, including two years (1965-67) during the Vietnam War as a Captain in Army Intelligence. He graduated first in his class at Infantry Officer School at Ft. Benning, GA and was trained as a counterintelligence agent. He taught Constitutional Law at the US Army Intelligence School, Ft. Holabird, MD, including to visiting foreign officers. In his free time, Mr. Mantle is an officer of the Jacksonville Senior Men's Interclub, which is comprised of 14 country clubs in northeast Florida that hold monthly golf tournaments on a rotating basis among the member clubs.
