He also served with the aforementioned university as the dean of the graduate school of science and engineering for four years and the head of the department of biotechnology for one year. Renowned for his wealth of expertise, Dr. Haga began his career as a research associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the U.S. and as a research scientist at the Institute of Applied Biochemistry in Mitake, Gifu, Japan.
Throughout his incredible career, Dr. Haga notably discovered immaturin, which is a protein that induces sexual rejuvenation in paramecium. He also established a bioassay system for cytotoxicity of nanomaterials in Paramecium, as well as a membrane potential dependent calcium channel, which is a very significant molecule. The first in his family to pursue a scientific career, Dr. Haga conducted his studies at Tohoku University, from which he earned an undergraduate degree, a master's degree and a Doctor of Philosophy.
Moreover, Dr. Haga was appointed as the president of the Nursing Care Insurance Institution Council in Ishinomaki City during 2000. He was also recruited as the president of the Ishinomaki Tennis Association in 2006. Backed by several industry-related organizations in support of his professional endeavors, Dr. Haga has been a prominent member of the Japan Society of Protozoology, the Japan Society of Biomedical Gerontology and the Genetics Society of Japan, among others.
Honored for his expertise, Dr. Haga accepted a Narisige Award from the Narisige Animal Science Promoting Fund in 1991. He also received a Protozoology Award from the Japan Society in 1997. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Haga has been showcased in the 11th and 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 32nd and 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
