FORT COLLINS, CO, January 26, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Roberts has been included in Marquis Who's Who. After having the privilege of meeting Presidential Candidate John F. Kennedy in 1960, Mr. Roberts was inspired to enter the Peace Corps, which cemented his lifelong career in international affairs. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer with camel-herding nomads in Somalia, and, subsequently, as Peace Country Director to Tunisia, Malta, and the Solomon Islands at conclusion of his government service. In the interim 27 years, he served as a U.S. Foreign Service officer in Viet Nam, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Malawi, Kenya, Egypt, Dominican Republic, Botswana, Namibia, Liberia, Madagascar, and Ukraine. In 1983, he was named as a Senior Foreign Service Officer and Minister/Counselor with the Department of State. He retired from his Foreign Service career in mid-1998.
Backed by his considerable expertise, Mr. Roberts was active with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Colorado State University in the late 1990s, serving as an associate professor on a full-time basis for nearly a decade before accepting a part-time ongoing position in 2010. Throughout his career, he has been affiliated with several prominent organizations, including Rotary International, Heritage Circle, and Senior Foreign Service. Alongside his work in international affairs and education, Mr. Roberts has contributed to his community and those less fortunate through the International Red Cross, Fort Collins' Senior Centers , the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, and the Fort Collins Symphony. In 2000, John Roberts founded the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures, Colorado's only museum dedicated solely to international art, artifacts, and international educational programs.
Before embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Roberts earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Foreign Affairs affairs from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1964. After his first Peace Corps service he studied international law at the American University in Washington, D.C. before entering the Foreign Service. Ten years later as a Foreign Service Office in-residence at Cornell University in 1976-1977, years later, he obtained a Master of Science in Regional Planning and Rural Development. In light of his professional expertise, he was presented with the Superior Honor Award from the U.S. Department of State and in retirement, the Rotarian of the Year Award in 2012. He was also recognized as a major contributor to Rotary International's World Peace Fellowships. Looking toward the future, Mr. Roberts intends to continue service to his community and more international traveling in the coming years. To date, he has been to 194 countries!
