While coming of age, Ms. Coors benefitted greatly from her teachers who showed compassion for students and education. Exposed to culturally diverse stories and perspectives, she learned the value in empathizing with those from diverse backgrounds. Throughout the course of her formal education, Ms. Coors received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Georgia, and undertook coursework at the College of Charleston while in her first formal year of teaching.
As a respected voice in her field, Ms. Coors was notably selected to present with two professors at the Association for Middle Level Education conference on service learning. Likewise, she also presented at the Georgia Council for Teachers of English on the subject of digital literacy. She subsequently worked as a pre-service educator on behalf of Morgan County Middle School and Oconee County Middle School between 2013 and 2015. Ms. Coors presently excels as a seventh-grade teacher at Philip Simmons Middle School, where she has found joy in teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
In her current position, Ms. Coors has developed most of her own curriculum based on student and community needs. Throughout her career at Philip Simmons Middle School, she has been appointed as the grade level chairperson of the seventh-grade and has served on culture and climate committees for the staff. She has been most proud of her daily interactions with students and values serving as an integral role in her students' academic and personal growth.
For her efforts as an educator, Ms. Coors was named as the Rookie Teacher of the Year in 2016 and, more recently, Philip Simmons Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2020. The same year, she was also selected as a semi-finalist for Berkeley County School's District Teacher of the Year. Additionally, Ms. Coors was chosen by her school district as a "spotlight educator" for her innovative work with students.
Civically, Ms. Coors serves on the Teacher Forum for her district, as well as the School Improvement Council and the Leadership Committee. Throughout the course of her career, she has attributed her personal and professional success to her teachers at St. Mary's Episcopal School and the University of Georgia, as well as the support of her family and friends.
