BRUNSWICK, GA, February 03, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Senator Sheila M. McNeill has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Incredibly dedicated to the cause of naval advocacy, Senator McNeill served as the national president of the Navy League of the United States between 2003 and 2005, the first and only woman ever to have done so across its nearly 120 year history. Founded in 1902, the nonprofit organization notably seeks to assist the efforts of the U.S. Navy, US Marine Corp and the U.S. Coast Guard through the proliferation of education and providing a supportive voice in the legislative process. Having previously excelled as the national vice president, Senator McNeill had notably spearheaded the organizations legislative activities, through which she educated members of the U.S. Congress on the importance of naval power.
Utilizing her fluency in the legislative process in her own career in politics, Senator McNeill was elected as the representative of Georgia's third senate district in 2020 and has been appointed to the Georgia Joint Defense Commission by Governor Brian Kemp. With a wealth of experience in sea services, she excelled as the vice chairperson of the executive committee for the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services, which operates under the office of the secretary of defense. In this capacity, Senator McNeill has visited sailors and troops at 45 U.S. military bases throughout the world.
Outside of her primary work in government affairs, Senator McNeill is active as the president of The Camden Partnership, a nonprofit organization that supports the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, a submarine base near the city of St. Marys in Camden County, Georgia. She had formerly distinguished herself as the co-chairperson of the U.S.S. Bancroft Sail Exhibit. Additionally, Senator McNeill continues to work with the St. Marys Submarine Museum and the Military Community Council, for which she previously flourished as the commissioning president and charter chairperson, respectively.
Senator McNeill has also contributed to the board of directors for the Chambers of Commerce in Glynn and Camden Counties as well as the Dolphin Scholarship Foundation and National Strategic Deterrent Coalition. Additionally, she was recruited as a regional leader of the Submarine Industrial Base Conference. In a career filled with highlights, Senator McNeill is most proud of her work with the Navy League of the United States, which had traditionally been male dominated before her election as its president.
To commemorate her accomplishments, Senator McNeill was presented with a Distinguished Civilian Award from the Naval Submarine League in 2019, a Distinguished Service Award from the Navy League of the United States in 2011, a U.S. Armed Forces Spirit of Hope Award in 2004, and various distinguished and meritorious public service medals by the U.S. Coast Guard. Recognized among the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend Magazine, she was likewise designated as a Paul Harris fellow by Rotary International. In accounting for her standout success, she credits her husband Arlie and several of the fantastic navy admirals with whom she has worked, whose support and advice has long been integral to her accomplishments. Looking toward the future, Senator McNeill aspires to continue managing The Camden Partnership and serving as Georgia District 3 Senator.
Senator McNeill is married to Arlie McNeill. They have one grown daughter (who was the Senator's Campaign Manager and is now her Aide). The McNeills have several grandchildren.
