Having practiced as an attorney in New York for more than 55 years, Mr. Lebow has garnered a stellar reputation for his expertise. Specializing in such areas as contracts, real estate, international corporate law and commercial litigation, he has worked tirelessly to earn a laudable reputation in the industry. Throughout the course of his career, he successfully represented clients as a partner at Coudert Brothers between 1965 until 1998, which was a large New York-based law firm with an international presence. After 34 years there, Mr. Lebow subsequently established in 1998 his own firm, Lebow and Sokolow LLP, as its managing partner, where he continues to provide expert counsel.
Mr. Lebow has also been chairperson of the New York City Civil Service Commission. The Commission is notably the local civil service commission of the New York State Civil Service, which hears appeals of city employees and applicants that have been disciplined or disqualified. Mr. Lebow next served on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York State from 2002 to 2014. He was also named as an honorary board member of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 2014 and is a former chairperson of the New York City Transit Authority and the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.
During his legal career, Mr. Lebow became active with various civic, nonprofit and educational organizations. He is presently the chairperson of Saint Francis Friends of the Poor Inc., the national chair of the American Friends of Magen David Adom for Israel and secretary of the Fortune Society. Perhaps, most notably, Mr. Lebow served in the U.S. Army National Guard and the U.S. Navy Reserve, Judge Advocate General Corps.
Highly educated, Mr. Lebow received a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude at the prestigious Yale University in 1961. Following this accomplishment, he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Harvard University in 1964. Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. Lebow has been admitted to practice before the New York Bar Association, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Supreme Court of the United States.
For his professional and civic commitments, Mr. Lebow was bestowed the Boris Kostelanetz President's Medal from the New York County Lawyers Association in 2013, a Saint Francis Medal from the Province of Most Holy Name of Jesus in 2001 and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 2019.
