LYNNWOOD, WA, February 08, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jerry E. Tilley Sr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having come of age in the cannery business, Mr. Tilley designed and built a crab processing plant for his father when he was just 17 years old. Following this accomplishment, he built and managed a crab cannery on Pier 60 in Seattle. He also designed and built the first floating Dungeness crab processor in Yakutat, Alaska, installed the first shrimp peeling machine on the West Coast and designed and built the first automated shrimp cannery in Alaska. After many years working as a designer, builder and manager of numerous seafood operations both afloat and shoreside he retired from Marine Resources Company International. Over the years, Mr. Tilley's considerable expertise, steadfast resolve and innate abilities have helped him provide opportunity and increased wealth for those in the seafood industry in Alaska, Washington State, and a plethora of countries, including Chile, Korea, Russia, Argentina, the Bahamas, and Panama.
Throughout the course of his storied career, Mr. Tilley has devised solutions and improved designs for machines in the seafood industry. In addition to the development of the first Dungeness crab floating processor, he developed a process to extract the meat of the tanner crab. He and his partner started an integrated fishing and seafood processing company, SeaWest Industries, operating out of Washington and Alaska. He was a commercial diver for more than three decades, during which time he laid underwater pipelines and helped raise boats from the sea floor and performed underwater welding and demolitions. Though Mr. Tilley's career has been suffused with highlights, he is especially proud to have assisted with the conversion of more than 30 fishing vessels to catcher/processors and designing equipment to assist in the removal of Pollock roe for sorting and packing on a Russian factory trawler.
Upon retiring, Mr. Tilley fostered his passion for writing and has authored such works as "Ice & Fire: The Powerful and Frightening Adventures of Survival in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands," which was published in 2020 and details the harrowing experiences he faced as a commercial diver and fisherman. Outside of his work, he has made it a point to contribute to those less fortunate through his affiliation with his local Lutheran Church and as a frequent donor to the Fisherman's Memorial. Looking toward the future, Mr. Tilley intends to continue writing and publishing his work so that he can leave a legacy for his children and grandchildren.
