Inspired by her father to pursue a career in law, Ms. Sidley earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of California Berkeley before pursuing a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Upon her graduation in 1991, she was admitted to practice law through the State Bar of California and began working in the Clinton Administration. Ms. Sidley had several positions including special assistant, Bureau of Reclamation, Department of the Interior and as a deputy director of press scheduling and logistics for The White House. Soon thereafter, Ms. Sidley was recruited as the deputy director for the Office on Violence against Women by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Backed by her considerable expertise in the political and legal arena, Ms. Sidley moved to California where she excelled as an assistant U.S. attorney between 1998 and 2001. She has subsequently served as the deputy city attorney for Los Angeles since 2003. As a city attorney, Ms. Sidley was assigned to the Port of Los Angeles, where she was promoted to general counsel and focused on matters involving the California Environmental Quality Act and the National Environmental Policy Act.
Drawing upon her years of professional excellence, Ms. Sidley additionally finds success as the commissioner of California's Little Hoover Commission, to which she was first appointed by Governor Brown. Alongside her stellar work with the Little Hoover Commission, she has flourished as general counsel for the Port of Los Angeles, with which she supervises all litigation involving the Port alongside nearly 15 other attorneys and more than five office personnel. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Ms. Sidley has been affiliated with the Pacific Council, the environmental division of the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
For her outstanding body of work, Ms. Sidley has been honored by The Los Angeles Business Journal and profiled by the Los Angeles Daily Journal. She additionally received an award for In-House Counsel of the Year, and was recognized as a Lawyer of Distinction in 2020. Even though her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of her exceptional efforts in government service.
