Accumulating more than 25 years of professional success, Ms. Hannan retired from the field of health care in 2017. A devoted, caring, and compassionate nurse who was respected by everyone in the community, she found success throughout much of her career as an office nurse and manager for John D. Doppelheuer, MD, a local physician who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology in Reston, Virginia. A leader with various civic, philanthropic, and religious groups over the years, Ms. Hannan currently works with Smile Train, a non-profit organization that provides corrective surgery for children with cleft lips and palates.
Over the past decade, Ms. Hannan has become an equally lauded writer and poet. Self-publishing three books in the past eight years, including two memoirs, she aspires to continue writing while creating local discussion groups where she and others can talk about real life issues. Several local newspapers, which have praised her work with favorable articles and reviews, have shed a light not only on her writing abilities, but also on her very personal journey in life.
Ms. Hannan's first memoir, titled "A Way Out," was released in 2012 with the intention of helping those trapped in a bad relationship find an exit strategy. Detailing her years of abuse, she also explains why she chose to stay for so long and how others can learn from her tumultuous experience. She subsequently released her second memoir in 2013, "A Mother Never Forgets," the raw story of her very personal journal in trying to locate the daughter that she surrendered for adoption at birth. In 2017, Ms. Hannan exhibited her creative side with the release of her first novel, "In the Light of Winter," a heartfelt story of a widow who desires to find love again during the so-called 'winter' season of her life.
Raised in a large family as the eldest of eight children, Ms. Hannan often accepted the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings. As a result of her upbringing, her eventual career choice in nursing was a natural progression for her. She later completed coursework at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and became registered as a nurse with a specialization in perioperative/operating room and surgical nursing. A volunteer in various capacities at her local church, Ms. Hannan is also noted as a founding member of the Great Falls Writers Group and a member of the American Honor Society.
