His interest in financial services begin after his father, a World War II and Korean War veteran, was disabled while in service and the family suffered a period of hardship. Later, among the first to earn a financial planning professional credential, he formed an independent practice focused on clients' best interest. Early on he became disappointed with his investing outcomes for clients. Considering a career change, Mr. Hill applied to a leading business school and concentrated in finance. At that time great ideas were emerging from the science of capital markets and transforming traditional investing. Mr. Hill's thinking changed, and he later formed a new firm with a fiduciary process that applied theory and insights informed by economic evidence to the world of financial planning and investing to achieve clients' needs, values, and goals more reliably.
Mr. Hill pursued formal education at the University of Rochester, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in English literature. He subsequently obtained a Master of Science in financial services from The American College. In his following academic phase, Mr. Hill attended both the William E. Simon Graduate Business School at the University of Rochester and then the University of Phoenix, where he earned a Master of Business Administration in finance and a Master of Science in financial planning, respectively.
Mr. Hill began his career as a financial planning professional in 1984 as the principal of Hill Financial Advisors, where he practiced for the next decade. In 1993 after completing his MBA, he established Professional Financial Strategies, Inc. to provide what is now known as comprehensive wealth management, where he continues to serve as chief executive officer and president, in addition to working with a select group of clients. He has been an adjunct faculty member for the College for Financial Planning. Mr. Hill holds numerous professional credentials, most importantly Certified Financial Planner®, Retirement Income Certified Professional® and Wealth Management Certified Professional®.
Reuters has named Mr. Hill among the Top Advisors in the U.S. and once featured on their website. He and his firm have been written about in Forbes, Fortune, and Bloomberg Business. As co-author of Retire Abundantly, James Malinchak of ABC's "The Secret Millionaire" interviewed him. Mr. Hill is editor of and writer for "Planning Perspectives." He maintains professional affiliations for continuing education and resources with the Financial Planning Association and the National Society of Accountants.
