THIBODAUX, LA, February 16, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alexander C. Barnes has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Since August 2020, Mr. Barnes has excelled as the director of university police and parking services at Nicholls State University, building on nearly a decade of outstanding professionalism in law enforcement and security. He has served as assistant director since 2018. Driven by a lifelong desire to serve others, he had initially hoped to join the United States military, but enrolled at Nicholls State University at the suggestion of his parents. After completing both an Associate of Science in criminal justice and a Bachelor of Arts in government and criminal justice, Mr. Barnes remained with the university as a member of the campus police force, graduating first in his police academy cohort.
Though he had expected to apply for federal positions after a short period with the university police, Mr. Barnes recognized his passion for local law enforcement and chose to remain on the force, earning a promotion to the rank of sergeant after just two years. In 2013, he departed from Nicholls State University to join the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office as a deputy in the Criminal Patrol Section. After rising to become a sergeant in 2014 and a Lieutenant in 2016, he returned to Nicholls State University as the assistant director for police operations in 2018. As a leader at Nicholls State University, Mr. Barnes is responsible for coordinating and administering campus parking, events security, Clery reporting, and criminal investigations while providing situational awareness, self-defense and safety classes for students.
In addition to his work with Nicholls State University, Mr. Barnes continues to support the larger policing community by teaching local police academy courses, including defensive tactics and active shooter response training. He has been inducted into the Nicholls State University Hall of Fame. Mr. Nicholls has been presented with an award celebrating nine and a half years of dedication to the Nicholls State University Police Department. Likewise, he is the former president of the Nicholls State University chapter of the NAACP and the Nicholls State University Student Government Association, and remains active in campus leadership as a member of the university council, executive team, emergency preparedness committee, and state and local Chief of Police Associations. Mr. Barnes credits his success on the support of his parents and the opportunities provided to him at Nicholls State University, and hopes to remain in the community as a law enforcement officer for the foreseeable future.
