BALLWIN, MO, February 16, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Carol Jo Simpson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After becoming interested in a music therapy program during the late-1970s, Ms. Simpson spent much of her time with young children and those with disabilities. Through these experiences, she came to realize her love of education and pursued a life in service to children. In 1975, Ms. Simpson graduated from Mineral Area Junior College with an Associate of Arts before completing a Bachelor of Arts in music education from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 1978 and a Master of Arts in special education from Webster University in 1983.
Upon graduating with her master's degree, Ms. Simpson began a decades-long career with the Parkway Central Senior High School as a secondary special education teacher as well as Department Chair of the Special Education Department for her last eight years before retiring in 2012. In her role as an educator, she utilized the "reach and teach" method with students grades nine through 12. A registered music therapist, Ms. Simpson retains her professional alignment with the Missouri Retired Teachers Organization in order to remain aware of changes in the field.
Outside of her work, Ms. Simpson contributed to those less fortunate through the Assistance League, as well as Shoe Carnival, through which she provided shoes, uniforms, winter attire, teddy bears and books to children in need. In light of her outstanding body of work, she has been recognized on several occasions, earning a Teacher of the Year Award for the 2010 to 2011 school year. Looking toward the future, Ms. Simpson intends to remain involved in the inner city high school district.
