A sought after trial and appellate attorney of more than 30 years, Mr. Hrycak has represented clients as the principal attorney of his own firm, the Law Office of Michael P. Hrycak, since 1990. During his career, he also served as a local counsel for the Thomas More Law Center, a Christian public interest law firm headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr. Hrycak spent three years as systems analyst for RCA at its Astro-Electronics division in Princeton, New Jersey, between 1983 and 1986.
In addition to his professional commitments at the firm, Mr. Hrycak has been instrumental in his community. He is currently Judge Advocate and New Jersey Department Commander in the Ukrainian American Veterans, it is a national nonprofit organization comprised of honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces that are of Ukrainian heritage or descent. Mr. Hrycak is notably a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served twenty eight years before retiring in 2009 as a lieutenant colonel. He served as Platoon Leader, Executive Officer and Cavalry Troop Commander, as well as a primary staff officer on Squadron, Brigade, and Joint Force Headquarters staffs, and military instructor, twenty seven years in the New Jersey Army National Guard from 1981 to 2008, over a year in the Army Reserve, and was mobilized and deployed between 2004-2009 in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, including a deployment to Iraq in 2006-2007, as Staff/Maneuver Officer on the 5th Region Border Transition Team.
To prepare for his professional career in law, Mr. Hrycak received a Bachelor of Arts at Rutgers College in 1981, a Master of Science in Computer Science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1983 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence with International Law Honors at Rutgers Law School in 1989, and is currently finishing his LL.M. thesis at George Washington University. Eminently qualified in his field, he has been admitted to practice law by the New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and D.C., the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third and Fourth Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is also accredited by the Veterans' Administration General Counsel. Additionally, Mr. Hrycak completed military educational classes, including Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Cavalry Leaders' Course, Combined Arms Staff Services School, Command and General Staff College, US Army War College Defense Strategy Course, Mobilization and Deployment Planning certification course, and Strategic Deployment Course.
To support his professional endeavors, Mr. Hrycak is a former treasurer of the Ukrainian Engineers Society of America, the D.C. Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. He is also active with Atlas Pythagoras Free and Accepted Masons, as well as the Sojourners, and member of Khmelnychenky Fraternity of Plast, Ukrainian Scouting Organization, where he has participated in running camps and jamborees. Pertinent to his military career, Mr. Hrycak is Junior Vice Commander of Post 7363 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of Post 328 of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans as a military veteran.
Mr. Hrycak received the Bronze Medallion of the Order of Saint George in 2007, which recognizes officers of armor or cavalry units for their meaningful contribution to the Armor and Cavalry Community during their careers. He also received an American Jurisprudence Award in the fall of 1987 while pursuing his law degree. Most recently, he was awarded the highest civilian award for support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces by General Stepan Poltorak, Minister of Defense of Ukraine on January 28, 2018, at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, DC, for his work as part of a project team that successfully pursued an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to pay for non-medical expenses for treatment of wounded Ukrainian Soldiers at United States Military Treatment Facilities. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Hrycak has been featured in the 56th through 58th editions of Who's Who in America and the eighth, 11th and 13th editions of Who's Who in American Law.
