ALBUQUERQUE, NM, February 18, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Paul Bartlett Ré with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Ré celebrates 50 years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
An acclaimed artist, writer, poet and peace worker, Mr. Ré has become recognized throughout the world for his creativity. Utilizing his Caltech education in the sciences to express himself through art, he knew that as much as he was moved by physics, he aspired to enjoy a "simpler lifestyle which included more handwork and a balance of head, heart, and soul." Combining his passion for science with his artistic talents, he has since developed an extraordinary career. Noted critics have written the following about his work: "The singular purity of Ré's simple, highly stylized designs gives them a unique place in modern art" . . . "Ré is a virtuoso of the pencil, which he uses with incredible delicacy and refinement." . . . "Achieves the artist's quieting and uplifting purpose with quiet greatness and noble simplicity." Mr. Ré has also become internationally known for promoting world peace through his art and writing.
Paul Ré's artwork, which has been applauded by such renowned artists as Georgia O'Keeffe, Raymond Jonson and Ed Garman and Nobel Laureate scientists like Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Roger Sperry and Kip Thorne, has been displayed in 13 states throughout the U.S. as well as other countries. Over the past five decades, he has been showcased in 22 solo exhibits at such locations as the Triangle Gallery in San Francisco, the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum and the UNM Jonson Gallery in Albuquerque. His widely reviewed traveling exhibition, Touchable Art: An Exhibit for the Blind and Sighted, was shown 18 times in the U.S. and Canada between 1981 and 1992. The warm response to the Touchable Art exhibition led Mr. Ré to produce a documentary film in 1990 on SCETV, which included a companion book.
Since 1994, Mr. Ré has served as the director of the Paul Ré Collection and Archives in Albuquerque. He is presently working to develop a museum to house his collection, which will include hundreds of his artworks, in 11 different media, created over the past 50 years. The design of the museum, from floor plan to furniture and stained-glass windows, will incorporate the 'basic shapes' employed in his art. Likewise, between 1981 and 1985, Mr. Ré was instrumental in the classroom. Employed by the University of New Mexico, he was responsible for developing and teaching a laboratory course called Physics for Poets. He also spent seven years as a member of the artist advisory board for the American Folk Art Museum Access to Art Program in New York City between 1987 and 1994.
As a writer, Mr. Ré has authored three books to date: "Touchable Art: A Book for the Blind and Sighted" in 1983, followed by his highly regarded "The Dance of the Pencil: Serene Art by Paul Ré" in 1992 and, more recently, "Art, Peace, and Transcendence: Réograms That Elevate and Unite" in 2015. His latest book received a New Mexico-Arizona Book Award for Philosophy in 2016 and an Independent Press Award for Distinguished Favorite in Fine Arts in 2019. Mr. Ré's large format art books can be found in about 700 libraries and museums in 35 countries, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. In addition to his own volumes, he has contributed chapters to several books, and articles to various professional journals such as "Leonardo." Moreover, Mr. Ré will be releasing three additional books, including "The Récycled Dictionary: Peace Through Wit, Wisdom, and Art," which is a selection from 55 handwritten volumes, and two collections of poetry called "The Iris Ballet" and "A Life in Ré Verse."
A dedicated community advocate, Mr. Ré spent several years as the prayer panel leader for Unity of Albuquerque. A life and founding member of Conservation International, he is also a life member of the Nature Conservancy, the Caltech Alumni Association and the La Montañita Food Co-op.
Paul Ré received a Bachelor of Science in physics, with honors, from the California Institute of Technology in 1972 as the fifth in his graduating class. He also completed residencies at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico, in 1982 and 1984. Mr. Ré founded the Paul Bartlett Ré Peace Prize at the University of New Mexico in 2006 to encourage individuals to promote inner and outer peace across various disciplines. There have been over 30 awardees since its founding, with prize winners hailing from diverse backgrounds. Paul Ré says, "I believe that we can greatly improve our world by encouraging and preserving the good in life – wisdom, beauty, insight, humor that enlightens – and using these positive forces to heal discord. When we thoroughly integrate peace into all our thoughts and actions, our life becomes a work of art." See more at www.paulre.org.
