A highly-respected pharmacist with nearly 45 years of professional experience, Mr. Anderson has found success with his consulting firm, Ernest R. Anderson Jr. Consulting Inc., since 2013. Based in Brockton, he provides expertise to the hospital pharmacy management sector in various aspects of financial and supply chain management, revenue cycle and billing management, charge description master management and sterile products. Mr. Anderson also consults on new commercial and governmental reimbursement models.
As an extension of his career, Mr. Anderson was active for nearly 25 years in the classroom as a former professor at Northeastern University between 1983 and 2017. He also flourished as a writer, providing his wealth of knowledge to chapters for books and numerous articles for scholarly journals. Mr. Anderson continues to lecture at local and national seminars in his free time.
Mr. Anderson's remarkable career began as a pharmacist at the New England Medical Center in Boston in 1976. After five years in this post, he was appointed as the associate director of pharmacy at the aforementioned medical center for more than 10 years. Mr. Anderson later served at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts as the director of pharmacy from 1993 to 1998, during which time he was noted as a national leader for securing reimbursement for clinical pharmacy services.
Mr. Anderson subsequently excelled with Steward Health Care as the vice president of pharmacy between 2009 and 2013. Among his achievements with the Boston-based hospital system, he executed system wide programs to improve medication safety and was an instrumental member of an assessment team that was responsible for securing the purchases of several for-profit hospitals. He previously maintained his involvement as a mission leader for World Servants in the Dominican Republic and Mexico in 1991, 1993, 1995, and 2000 as well as for Saint Vincent's in 2000. Since 1992, Mr. Anderson has contributed as an elder with the Free Evangelical Fellowship in Easton, Massachusetts, for which he had participated as a youth leader between 1988 and 2016.
In his youth, Mr. Anderson worked part-time at a local drug store. So impressed by the field, he eventually enrolled at Northeastern University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy in 1976 and a Master of Science in hospital pharmacy in 1979. Additionally becoming registered as a pharmacist, Mr. Anderson also garnered his certification in Lionslead, a leadership assessment tool, and DiSC Workplace, a personality testing tool.
An elected fellow of the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists, Mr. Anderson has been affiliated with the American Pharmaceutical Association and the Multihospital System Executive Leaders Group. Likewise, he has held administrative roles with the Massachusetts Society of Health System Pharmacists and the Association of Community Cancer Centers, for which he was notably the first pharmacist to become elected as the secretary and president. Crediting his success to years of servant leadership, Mr. Anderson explains that his philosophy in the workplace has been an extension of his relationship with Christ.
Among his multiple accolades, Mr. Anderson was honored by the Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He was also recognized by the Pharmacists as the Massachusetts Hospital Pharmacist of Year in 1985. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Anderson has been cited in the 56th through 58th editions of Who's Who in America and the 15th and 18th editions of Who's Who in the World.
