Mr. Nutting retired from his profession in 2017 after more than 21 years as city manager of Springfield, Tennessee. He originally hailed from League City, Texas, where he spent more than 16 years, beginning as an administrative assistant and working his way up to the role of a city administrator between 1982 and 1995. Proud to have been able to work with numerous elected officials, city employees and volunteers throughout his career, Mr. Nutting is equally grateful for the opportunity to manage two incredible cities, helping them grow into stronger communities as a result.
A recognized professional in his field, Mr. Nutting has served in various other capacities over the past 25 years. He originally served as a board director and as the secretary of the Tennessee Energy Acquisition Corporation from 1996 to 2004, which provides natural gas supply throughout the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee. He later served the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization as an executive board member and alternate board member, the Regional Transportation Authority as an alternate board member and the Tennessee Municipal League as a board director. In 2013, Mr. Nutting was named as the treasurer of the Five Rivers Resource Conservation and Development Council. The council notably promotes activities to enhance quality of life, conserve natural resources and promote economic development.
Due to his active involvement in the community, Mr. Nutting has lent his time and expertise voluntarily to various nonprofit organizations as well. He served on the board of directors of the United Way of Robertson County from 1995 to 2016 and as chairman during 2003 and was an executive board member of the Mainland Communities United Way in Texas City, Texas, from 1991 to 1994. He also served on the North Galveston County Chamber of Commerce in Dickinson, Texas, as an ex-officio board member of the Robertson County Chamber of Commerce, former advisory director of the League City Merchants and Business Association, and former board member of the League City Family Welfare Council. Mr. Nutting is presently a board member of the Robert County Historical Society since 2017, and vice president since 2019, and a board member for Stokes Brown Public Library since 2018.
Mr. Nutting is a graduate of State University of New York, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1974. Shortly thereafter, he attained a Master of Public Administration in 1977. To support his career, Mr. Nutting is a former two-time director and past president of the Houston Area Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration. He is also an alumni member of the Tennessee City Management Association and a life member of the International City/County Management Association. Additionally, Mr. Nutting is a past president of the Rotary Club of Springfield and the Rotary Club of League City.
