WESTLAKE, OH, February 22, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alan Olson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As a youth, Mr. Olson inherited an uncle's college chemistry glassware, and became inspired to pursue a career in engineering by this uncle, who was the director of engineering for Bristol Myers. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Tufts University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut during the mid-1970s. He began his career developing fuel cell systems at Pratt & Whitney. He earned a professional engineer license in Connecticut, and holds a current license in Ohio. He has been the president of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, as well as the chairman of the Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors. An accomplished visionary with expansive knowledge in research and development at the BFGoodrich Chemical Company, he developed the process that makes a plastic resin for potable hot water tubing and chemical process piping. Mr. Olson further flourished in the field as a senior business manager for resins and compounds with The Geon Company. During his tenure with the Ferro Corporation, Mr. Olson held positions as the director of technology, and as the corporate director of product stewardship, where he established the company's global product stewardship organization.
Since 2016, he excels as the president of Westlake Science & Technology Inc., a scientific and engineering consultancy that specializes in product and process excellence in the areas of sustainability, product stewardship, environmental compliance and advocacy. Mr. Olson channels his considerable experience to various initiatives, including those involving sales performance and new market opportunities. In addition to providing input for U.S. Toxic Substances Control Act reform (the Lautenberg Act), he provided input for Ohio House Bill 512, which establishes the state of Ohio as the leader in the U.S. for reducing exposure from lead in drinking water. In a career that has been filled with highlights, Mr. Olson is especially proud of developing a set of normalization equations regarding contaminants from drinking water pipes and additives for certification of those products in the US and other countries.
Lately, Mr. Olson served as a member of the charter review commission for the city of Westlake, and continues to provide expert advice to the city. Mr. Olson remains aware of changes in the field through his professional alignment with the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Academy of Forensic Engineers, the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Water Works Association. In light of his outstanding body of work, he was recognized with awards from The BFGoodrich Company, The Geon Company and the Society of Glass Decorators. Looking forward, Mr. Olson continues development work on a sensor for identifying buried lead drinking water pipes, and a device to remove trash from storm water runoff.
