Hired in 1997, he held such noteworthy roles as chairman of the board, chairman, president, and chief executive officer throughout the subsequent 15 years. Sir Howard led the introduction of Blu-ray as the global digital standard for DVD's. Mr. Stringer previously excelled with CBS News, where he contributed for several decades between 1973 and 1997. Some of his career highlights at CBS included serving as the president of CBS Inc., where he oversaw all broadcast activities of its entertainment, news, sports, radio and televisions stations. Mr. Stringer likewise distinguished himself as the president of CBS News and the executive producer of CBS Evening News with Dan Rather and CBS Reports. CBS was the first network to go from third to first in the ratings for one season.

As a businessman, Mr. Stringer served on various boards of directors, including for the Intercontinental Hotels Group, PLC, and Sony Corp. He also chaired the business school at his alma mater, Oxford University. Mr. Stringer has maintained activity on the board of directors of Talk Talk Telecom Group PLC since 2012.

Born in Wales, Mr. Stringer made his way to the U.S. in 1965, only to be drafted into the U.S. Army just six weeks after acquiring a position at CBS's flagship station WCBS-TV. Spending 10 months in Vietnam as a military policeman, he returned to CBS in 1967 where he contributed for the subsequent 30 years, establishing himself as a journalist, producer and senior executive. A community leader for many years, Mr. Stringer has held leading positions with the American Friends of the British Museum, the American Theatre Wing, the British Army Benevolent Fund, the New York Presbyterian Hospital and with other professional organizations and causes. He remains active with Time Inc., and BBC as a member of the executive board. He also served as chairman of the American Film Institute, Los Angeles, CA, for the last 20 years, retiring in 2020.

Before embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Stringer attended the prestigious Oxford University. He acquired a Bachelor of Art and Master of Art in modern history. Mr. Stringer later received an honorary doctorate from the University of Arts in London, the University of Glamorgan in Wales and the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Mr. Stringer received his first two awards in 1996 in recognition of his achievements; a First Amendment Leadership Award from the Radio and Television News Directors Foundation and an induction into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame. He later received the UJA-Federation of New York's Steven J. Ross Humanitarian Award in 1999 and, that same year, was inducted into the Royal Television Society's Welch Hall of Fame.

Most impressively, Mr. Stringer received the title of a Knight from Queen Elizabeth II. He was also bestowed with a Visionary Award from Innovation Leadership in Media and Entertainment by the Museum of Television and Radio in 2007, an Award for Dedication to the Arts and Extraordinary Personal Achievements in Media and Communications by the Met Opera in New York City in 2008 and countless other recognitions for his work, teachings, humanitarian and volunteer efforts. For his time served in the military, Dr. Stringer was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious achievement.
