A seasoned business owner with decades of expertise at his disposal, Dr. Swaim has excelled as the president of Swaim Farm Corporation since 1945. Backed by his considerable business experience, he pursued an education at Indiana State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in biology and mathematical chemistry in 1959. Although he originally intended on becoming a teacher, Dr. Swaim decided to apply to medical school and obtained a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1963.
Upon graduating with his medical degree, Dr. Swaim served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Over the years, he gained valuable professional expertise in medicine, investments and business as the president of Parke Investments Incorporation and Swaim Investment Corporation, a health officer and the medical director for the Parke Clinic and Lee Alan Bryant Health Facility and the Parke County coroner. Dr. Swaim found further success as the president of Vermillion Health Care Corporation as well as the medical director of Rockville Correctional Facility and Newport Chemical Depot.
A diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine with a certification in geriatrics, Dr. Swaim has been affiliated with the American Medical Association, the Indiana State Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians in order to remain aware of ongoing changes in the field of medicine. In a career that has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of establishing healthcare practices in different locations in addition to publishing "One Year and Eternity" in 1978 and in 2007. Additionally, he has been recognized many times for his outstanding body of work, accepting a Decorated Bronze Star, the Weinbaum Award and the Doc Hollywood Award.
