Dr. Konkowski is an educator and researcher who has been aligned with the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Maryland, for more than three decades. Recognized as the undergraduate college of the U.S.'s naval service, she was first acquired in 1987 as an assistant professor. Quickly progressing to associate professor within just four years and then to a full professor in 1997, she has taught courses in mathematical physics, special relativity and general relativity, including Introduction to Mathematical General Relativity. Meanwhile, much of Dr. Konkowski's research has notably included general relativistic spacetimes, black holes, cosmic strings and other similar areas of the field.
As an extension of her academic career, Dr. Konkowski was a visiting associate professor and visiting professor at the University of London for several years between 1995 and 2020. As the result of her research, she has contributed over 50 research articles in scholarly journals and has been a frequent speaker at various conferences. Presenting all over the world in her area of expertise, Dr. Konkowski recently visited the University Club of Claremont in March 2019, where she spoke extensively about general relativity and how it can predict such things as black holes and big-bang cosmologies.
Born in Akron, Ohio, Dr. Konkowski later studied at Harvey Mudd College in California, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in physics in 1977. Shortly thereafter, she completed a Doctor of Philosophy in physics at the University of Texas in Austin in 1983. Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Konkowski's credit include postdoctoral research fellowships at the University of Maryland in College Park from 1983 to 1985 and Queen Mary, University of London, from 1985 to 1987.
Supporting her professional career, Dr. Konkowski has been active with several prominent industry-related organizations. Among them, she is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Physical Society, the American Mathematics Society, the New York Academy of Science and the International Society General Relativity and Gravitation. Well regarded for her indelible contributions, Dr. Konkowski secured ongoing grants from the National Science Foundation between 1989 and 2004. Recognized by the USNA, she received an Outstanding Faculty Research Award in 2010.
