The organization is a member of the State Policy Network. Mr. Hinderaker formerly served on the Center's board of directors from 1996 until 2000 and was the board chairman between 1998 and 2000. Providing commentary on the news online, Power Line was recognized by Time magazine in 2004 as the first and only Slog of the Year for its role in the exposure of Dan Rather's fraudulent 60 Minutes piece on President George W. Mr. Hinderaker practiced law at Faegre and Benson LLP and its successor, Faegre Baker Daniels LLP, in Minneapolis, where he rose from an associate attorney in 1974 to a partner from 1981 through 2015. Originally established as Cobb and Wheelwright, the firm later became recognized as one of the largest, full-service law firms headquartered in the U.S. During his 41 year tenure there, Mr. Hinderaker developed a national litigation practice, tried approximately 100 jury cases, including a $200 million jury trial, appeared in courts in 19 states and chaired his firm's practice standards committee from 1986 to 2001.
In addition to his career in law, Mr. Hinderaker has contributed articles to various publications, including National Review, Weekly Standard and the American Spectator, as well as local newspapers from Florida to California. He also co-authored several research papers published by Center of the American Experiment. Additionally, Mr. Hinderaker has made many guest appearances on television networks including Fox News, NBC, CBS, CNBC, CNN, and Sky News Australia, and serves as a frequent guest and guest host on various national and regional radio programs. He has lectured at numerous colleges and universities, including Dartmouth College, Harvard Law School, Carleton College, St. Olaf College, Macalester College and the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Hinderaker attended Dartmouth College, where he attained a Bachelor degree, magna cum laude, in 1971. He then earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1974. Mr. Hinderaker has been admitted to practice law by the Minnesota Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Eighth and Ninth Circuits and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
Committed to his community, Mr. Hinderaker has been active with the Freedom Club of Minnesota since 1998. He served on the Board of Visitors of the Rockefeller Center for the Study of Public Policy at his alma mater, Dartmouth College, between 2006 and 2013. As a lawyer, Mr. Hinderaker has been a member of the American Bar Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association. He is also a former member of the Hennepin County Bar Association's Ethics Committee.
