He is the former co-owner of Gibson Pharmacy and a staff pharmacist at Ray's Pharmacy, which was also located in Lawton. Bob Dishman's accomplished career included appointment as an affiliate instructor in Community Pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University's, College of Pharmacy, and as the president of Hospice of the Lawton Area. Moreover, he currently serves as a board member of Cameron Campus Ministries, The Center for Creative Living, and the Comanche County Board of Health, all located in Lawton-Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and The Oklahoma Pharmacy Heritage Foundation, located in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
He has been aligned with several organizations throughout his community. He was a member of the Lawton Chamber of Commerce, Head Usher at Centenary United Methodist Church, and the former president of United Methodist Men. He also volunteered as a reading tutor for Lincoln Elementary School in Lawton. Most notably, Bob Dishman served in the Oklahoma National Guard between 1959 and 1965, during which he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Bob Dishman received a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1959. He later received a Doctor of Pharmacy (D.Ph.) through the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy in 2001. To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Bob Dishman maintained his membership with such pertinent organizations as the American Pharmaceutical Association, the National Community Pharmacists Association, and the Pharmacy Providers of Oklahoma. He has likewise found success in positions of high authority with the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association, the Ostomy Association, and the Oklahoma Pharmacy Heritage Foundation, which owns and operates the Oklahoma Frontier Drug Store Museum and The Apothecary garden, both located in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Recognized for his successes and longevity in the field, Bob Dishman was the recipient of a Community Pharmacy Preceptor Award from Southwestern Oklahoma State University's College of Pharmacy in 1980 and 1995, inducted into the Oklahoma Pharmacy Heritage Foundation's Hall of Fame in 1992, and received a Friends of Guidance Award from the Oklahoma Vocational Association in 1996. Among other accolades for his leadership in pharmacy, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 from the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority. His most prestigious recognition professionally was being named the Outstanding Alumnus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University's College of Pharmacy in 1998, and The Bowl of Hygeia Award from the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association and Wyeth Labs in 2003. A celebrated Marquis listee, Bob Dishman has been cited in the 58th and 59th editions of Who's Who in America.
