Originally intent on becoming a pilot after graduating from the U.S Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in 1967, Mr. Jackson was turned away due to his vision problems and decided to pursue a career in law. Four years after receiving his undergraduate degree, he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Denver's College of Law and embarked upon a decades-long career in law. Throughout the course of his professional journey, Mr. Jackson gained valuable expertise in the field through various firms before founding Jackson Tidus in 1983.
An accomplished real estate law professional, Mr. Jackson excels today as a shareholder with Jackson Tidus, where he focuses his practice in various areas, including intellectual property cases, environmental law, land use development, mergers and acquisitions, labor and employment matters, and business and corporate law. Additionally, he chairs the subdivisions services group on behalf of the firm, which has established more than 3,000 residential, commercial and mixed-use associations for builders and land developers.
In light of his considerable knowledge, Mr. Jackson has contributed to a number of publications throughout his career, including "Condominiums and Cooperatives," which he wrote with the assistant attorney general of the State of New York. He has also assisted in drafting legislation that has been passed by the California Legislature, given expert testimony to more than 100 law firms in the state and has had his work cited in a plethora of court cases, such as Davert v. Larson, Ruoff v. Harbor Creek Community Association and Nahrstedt v. Lakeside Village Condominium Association.
Mr. Jackson remains aware of changes in the field via his affiliations with the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California, the Orange and Los Angeles County Bar Associations, the Urban Land Institute and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, where he has been a fellow since 1985. Outside of his work with the firm, he contributes to his community as the director of Habitat for Humanity Orange County, a member of the California Building Industry Association and by providing his legal expertise in a pro bono capacity. Previously, Mr. Jackson served as the president of the Community Associations Institute, as well.
In light of his professional excellence, Mr. Jackson has been recognized on many occasions, earning consistent AV ratings through Martindale-Hubbell and inclusion into Southern California Super Lawyers, through which he has been recognized since 2002. The International Who's Who of Real Estate Lawyers has also honored him since 2013. Though his career has been suffused with a multitude of highlights, he is most proud to have been cited by the California Supreme Court and as the only attorney on the Hall of Fame for the California Homebuilding Foundation. Within the next three years, Mr. Jackson aims to retire and pursue more charitable work.
