Mr. Geschke is a retired writer, communications professional and teacher celebrating more than four decades of success in his chosen fields. Living by the words of Scottish writer, George Bernard Shaw, who opined that "life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself," he studied at San Diego University, from which he attained a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Following this accomplishment, he earned a Master of Arts in Education from National University in 2004. Inspired by the Watergate investigation and his father's 50-year career with the Associated Press, Mr. Geschke began his career in journalism in 1973 as a copy boy for the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Over the course of the next decade, Mr. Geschke would continue to rise with the San Diego Union-Tribune, where he became a writer and copy editor by the time of his departure in 1982. At this time, he accepted a position as a public relations assistant with the San Diego Padres Baseball Club, and eventually rose to become the team's Director of Community Relations and Publications. He subsequently moved on to pursue independent public relations consulting for several years during the mid-1990s before becoming an Adjunct Professor for the School of Communications at San Diego State University in 1999. Between 1996 and 2001, Mr. Geschke developed content for IVID Communications in addition to his work in education and public relations. Beginning in the early 2000s, he taught language arts, mostly British literature and World literature for the DeKalb and Gwinnett County Schools, where he would remain active until his retirement from education in 2018.
Throughout his career, Mr. Geschke has contributed to dozens of publications including the San Diego Union, Baseball Digest and House Calls magazine, and published interviews with celebrities including Deepak Chopra, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, and several other baseball Hall of Fame players and broadcasters. He is the author of a 1986 book, "Tony!," a biography of baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, and is proud of the opportunities that he has had to make a significant impact on the lives of so many students and readers. Mr. Geschke is a former board member of the California Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and was the recipient of the 1991 Major League Baseball Charitable Organization of the Year Award, among other recognitions. Looking toward the future, he aspires to return to his charitable activities and enjoy work with companions once the coronavirus pandemic has subsided.
He is a widower (Elaine d.2020) with three sons (Christopher, Andrew and Nicholas) and two grandchildren (AJ and Alexis).
