PHOENIX, AZ, March 05, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard E. Glisson has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Glisson is the owner and founder of Heritage Hats, a custom hat sales and restoration shop that has served the Phoenix area since 1983. A Bible college graduate, and former youth pastor, he relocated from his hometown of Rockford, Illinois, to Phoenix, Arizona in the early 1980s. Fascinated by the skills and mythology of the cowboy lifestyle, Mr. Glisson met and became friends with Steve Speros, who would eventually teach him the art and skill of cleaning and blocking Western hats.
Mr. Glisson met a couple of working cowboys in Cave Creek, a small town outside Phoenix where he had stopped for breakfast, and was fascinated by the history and art of cleaning, blocking and restoration of hats they shared with him. They encouraged Mr. Glisson to start a hat shop in the Phoenix area. At the time, the town no longer had a full-service hat maker, and he seized upon the opportunity to fill such a niche. Mr. Glisson purchased the original equipment that Mr. Falkedes (owner of Athen's Hat Works) owned, from the family retained from the 1910s. Mr. Glisson then filled in his inventory with support from Stetson Hats salesmen. Following this accomplishment, Mr. Glisson would travel to rodeos and horse shows with flyers advertising Heritage Hats, and his business grew strongly over the first few years.
Mr. Glisson considers his greatest accomplishment is starting Heritage Hats with less than five hundred dollars of investment money and expanding it to become the Phoenix area's largest and most well established hat shop. He attributes his success to developing personal friendships with clients, who have come to rely on him for sensitive restoration work. Mr. Glisson's clients have included President Ronald Reagan, actor George Burns and The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. His business has been featured in the Arizona Republic Newspaper, winning the Best of Phoenix title and being featured in several editions of the Arizona Highways Magazine, among other news outlets. He has been presented with Stetson's Outstanding Sales and Service Award several times. Mr. Glisson considers running a business to be the culmination of many of his lifelong dreams of owning a successful business.
