WORLAND, WY, March 09, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Lawrence M. Woods with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Woods celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A retired oil company executive, Mr. Woods studied accounting and law at the University of Wyoming, receiving the Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in 1953. He served as an auditor in the U. S. Army Audit Agency in Denver from 1954 to 1955, where he also received the Certified Public Accountant certificate in Colorado.
In 1956, Mr. Woods joined a subsidiary company of Mobil Oil in Billings, Mont., as an accountant, and while there he was also admitted to the Montana Bar in 1957. In 1959 he moved to the Mobil headquarters in New York, where he became the general manager of worldwide planning and economics in 1967, was elected vice president of the corporation in 1969, and executive vice president and director in 1977. He retired from Mobil Corporation in 1985.
While in New York, Mr. Woods was also elected as treasurer of the Lutheran Church in America (the largest Lutheran body in the U. S.) in 1972, and Wagner College conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws on him the next year; he resigned from that office in 1982. (He was serving as treasurer in 1974 when the first Lutheran World Hunger appeal was launched, and the fiftieth anniversary of that action will be celebrated in 2024.)
Also, while working in New York, Mr. Woods earned the Master of Arts and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees in history from New York University. Mr. Woods wrote an accounting text, "Accounting for Capital, Construction and Maintenance Expenditures, in 1967, but most of his books are western American history, including "Moreton Frewen's Western Adventures" in 1986, "British Gentlemen in the Wild West" in 1989, "Wyoming's Big Horn Basin" in 1996, "The Lives of Otto Chenoweth" in 2016, and the recently released "William Jefferson Hardin and the Ghost of Slavery" in 2020.
Mr. Woods has been a member of several industry-related organizations in support of his career, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Montana Bar Association.
