WALNUT GROVE, MO, March 12, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Erica Russell has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Bearing a particular specialization in discharge planning and resource referrals, Ms. Russell serves as a medical social worker at Cox South Hospital, where she assists with placement to nursing home facilities, providing resources for various needs and working with the healthcare team to determine the best outcome for patients after discharge. At the age of fourteen, she was diagnosed with type one diabetes during a stay at her regional children's hospital, and recalls that the hospital had a social worker who went above and beyond, up to and including notifying her school to managing problems with insurance along the way. Finding inspiration from this experience, Ms. Russell graduated from Missouri State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Social Work, and hopes to continue her education in the coming years.
Ms. Russell began her career as a family advocate with her area Head Start office, and eventually transitioned toward foster care prevention and case management. She considers her time in foster care supervision to be a career highlight, through which she provided in-home supervision and counseling for both children in foster care and their caregivers with the goal of reuniting family units at the end of six weeks. From 2017 until 2020, Ms. Russell wrote treatment plans as a support coordinator for Abilities First, departing from the position to move into her current role with Cox South Hospital.
In addition to her work at the hospital, Ms. Russell is active in her church community, volunteering with the community food bank and as a Sunday School teacher for third and fourth grade students. She is affiliated with the American Diabetes Association, and considers her personal experiences navigating long-term medical care and long-term diagnoses to be key to her philosophy of practice. Ms. Russell is the proud mother of two children.
