HOOVER, AL, March 15, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Arthur M. Boudreaux has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An accomplished medical professional, Dr. Boudreaux channels years of expertise in anesthesiology, perioperative services, quality management, regulatory affairs, medical ethics, and more into his work as professor of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine in the department of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine at UAB Medicine. Since the early 1980s, he has held a plethora of roles as chief resident, director of resident education, vice chair for education, vice chair for clinical affairs, vice chair for quality and patient safety, and as chief of staff for UAB health system. In that role he was responsible for medical staff affairs and worked to improve physician engagement with institutional strategic initiatives and goals.
In addition to his work with UAB, he served as president of the Alabama State Society of Anesthesiologists, and as an elected officer of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, where he chaired multiple committees, task forces, and sections with the goal of improving anesthesiology care, surgical care delivery, and patient safety in the United States. Over the years, he has given many national presentations at anesthesiology conferences on topics including the perioperative surgical home, prehabilitation of surgical patients, improving patient outcomes, and medical ethics in anesthesia practice. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and articles and has served as an editorial reviewer for medical journals such as Academic Medicine, Anesthesia and Analgesia, the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, and the Joint Commission Journal of Quality and Patient Safety.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Boudreaux earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from Louisiana State University in 1976. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, and completed his anesthesiology residency training at UAB. Throughout his career he has built upon his considerable expertise by completing additional educational programs at the Harvard School of Public Health in health care negotiation and conflict resolution, the University of Michigan Business School's Healthcare Leadership Institute, and the UAB School of Health Professions obtaining a graduate certificate in healthcare quality and safety. In 2017, he was designated as a fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He has been a member of several medical societies such as the American Medical Association, the Society of Education in Anesthesia, and state and county medical societies. In addition, he is an invited member of the Academy of Anesthesiology, where he currently serves as president-elect.
For his outstanding body of work, Dr. Boudreaux has been honored on numerous occasions as a Top Ten Teacher and twice as Teacher of the Year at UAB Anesthesiology. He received a Distinguished Service by a Physician Award by the American Academy of Anesthesiologists Assistants and has received a Best Doctor award for 14 consecutive years. Dr. Boudreaux is proud to have had the opportunity to help train many anesthesiologists who now work in almost every state of the U.S. He currently serves as a perioperative quality and safety consultant to help improve surgical care in hospitals across the country. He lives in Birmingham, AL with his wife, has two daughters and four grandchildren.
