After nearly four decades of excellence in the industry, Mr. Kelling retired as a senior financial reporting analyst for University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in 2015. Distinguishing himself across the span of an extensive accounting career, which enabled him to work in both the public and private sectors, he began as an accountant for the Lower Colorado River Authority in Austin, Texas. Several years later, he accepted the opportunity to serve as the chief financial officer and senior vice president for Bay Bancshares Inc. in 1983. During his short tenure there, Mr. Kelling learned all the facets of accounting, consolidations and investments thanks to the mentorship of John Courville, the chief executive officer at the time.
Crediting his Christian faith for all his success, Mr. Kelling continued to excel as an audit senior for BDO Seidman and Company in Houston and in education as an internal auditor for the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District in Baytown. Likewise, he found success as the director of accounting for the University of Houston at Clear Lake between 2002 and 2008. Mr. Kelling was also active on the board of directors for Bay Banc Data Services in La Porte.
Mr. Kelling is a 1975 graduate of Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University (TAMU), where he attained a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting. Eminently qualified in his field, he has received certification as a certified public accountant in Texas, a fraud examiner and a bank auditor. Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Kelling became a tutor on behalf of Open Door Mission after his retirement in 2015. He is also a member of the Living Water Church in Deer Park, Texas.
Supported by several industry related organizations, Mr. Kelling has been active as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Accountants, the Bank Administration Institute and the Society of Chartered Bank Auditors. He is also a member of the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University Alumni Association and several honor societies. Well regarded for his expertise, Mr. Kelling received an Accounting Recognition Award from TAMU in 1975, and was selected to Beta Alpha Psi National Accounting Fraternity and to Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
