Having excelled in private practice in the Hollywood Hills area of California for more than four decades, Dr. Kalish specializes in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Assisting patients in learning to explore both their conscious and unconscious feelings, she works with various individuals, including couples with marital issues, adults with depression and other daily life concerns, as well children with various behavior issues and autism. Dr. Kalish is also aligned with the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies. Aside from her work as a training supervisor analyst, she has also been active at the Institute as President and current director of its infancy, early childhood, parenting and psychotherapy program.

Hailing from a background that includes extensive expertise in developmental psychology, Dr. Kalish's previous commitments included working as a clinical psychologist for Allcare/Mission Health Services and as a clinician and supervisor for the Los Angeles County Mental Health-Asian Pacific Treatment Program. She also found success for several years as a faculty member and psychotherapist at the Los Angeles Family Institute, the director of the graduate program in movement therapy at Loyola Marymount University and Immaculate Heart College, a dance-movement therapist and research associate at the Developmental Center for Autistic Children and a dance-movement therapist at the Philadelphia State Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Kalish was responsible for initiating the dance program at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, between 1958 and 1963. Besides her full-time commitments, she provided her expertise as a consultant and supervisor on behalf of the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health from 1986 until 1991. She has continued to serve in the same capacity for the Asian-Pacific Counseling Center in Los Angeles since 1986.

Dr. Kalish studied at Sarah Lawrence College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1955. Pursuing additional degrees, she received a Doctor of Philosophy at Bryn Mawr College in 1976, followed by a Doctor of Psychoanalysis at the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Study. Dr. Kalish is a licensed clinical psychologist and a registered dance movement therapist and is board certified in psychoanalysis through the Confederation of International Psychoanalytic Societies. A prolific writer, she has contributed scholarly articles to various peer-reviewed journals since 1963. Likewise, she co-edited "The Rangell Reader" through International Psychoanalytic Books in New York and co-authored "Amazon Dreaming" through Routledge in London, which is due for release in 2021.

To support her career, Dr. Kalish has been a member of the American Psychological Association. She is also a charter member and past president of the American Dance Therapy Association. Through the association, Dr. Kalish has been active with the Marina Chace Memorial Fund as a trustee and former treasurer between 1980 and 1990. The fund notably serves to facilitate scholarship and research in dance and movement therapy. Furthermore, Dr. Kalish is an elected fellow of the American Orthopsychiatric Association and former board member of the International Psychoanalytic Association.

During Dr. Kalish's career, she secured a faculty research grant from Immaculate Heart College in 1979 and a second grant from the Bureau of Education for the Handicapped in 1980. She also received several honors, including an Award for Movement Therapy with Schizophrenics from the Philadelphia Mental Health Association in 1961, a Research with Autism Award from the Van Ameringen Foundation Inc. in 1972, and a Body Movement Scale for Atypical Children Award from the National Institute for Mental Health between 1974 and 1975. She also received two awards in 2007, which included an Alumnae Achievement Award from Sarah Lawrence College and a Distinguished Service Award from the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies. More recently, Dr. Kalish received a Leadership Award from the North American Psychoanalytic Confederation in 2017.
